    While SSDs improved speed dramatically, many pre-2016 laptops shipped with HDDs, making the drive a common cause of daily slowdowns.

    This bottleneck becomes especially apparent when running multiple applications simultaneously. Streaming music while browsing the web and editing a document should not feel like an impossible ask, yet on a RAM-starved machine, each additional task compounds the slowdown exponentially.

    Thermal Throttling From Dust and Worn Paste

    Heat management plays a critical role in sustained laptop performance that many users completely overlook. Over time, dust accumulates inside the cooling vents and around the fan blades, restricting airflow.

    The thermal paste between the processor and the heatsink also dries out and loses its conductivity after several years. When internal temperatures rise beyond safe thresholds, the CPU automatically reduces its clock speed to prevent damage.
