According to recent reports, Sony is currently facing a lawsuit worth $5.9 billion (£5 billion) for allegedly taking advantage of Playstation users through digital game sales in a mass abuse of position. The company purportedly put a 30% commission on Playstation games sold via the official online Sony Playstation store, as well as over-charging them for in-game purchases (microtransactions).

For years, UK consumers have been paying a much higher price than they needed to. If the lawsuit is successful, just short of ten million people could end up with a payout worth anywhere from around $60 up to $600. Will this lawsuit mean that more people will lose trust in the company and move to mobile gaming? Only time will tell.

How long has Playstation been ripping people off?

According to these same reports, Sony Playstation has been ripping off consumers for more than six years now (since as far back as August 2016). The video gaming console giant has been accused of breach of competition law, and it looks as though consumers may be entitled to compensation if the lawsuit is successful.

How big is the video gaming industry?

The gaming industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and is currently the largest entertainment industry in the United Kingdom. It even generates more revenue than the television, music, and video industries, and it’s on a similar par with the online gambling industry.

Will people start to move away from Playstation to mobile games?

For some people, Sony Playstation has crossed a line, and they may start to move to mobile gaming. Others may spend more time playing their favourite games at 10bet Kenya rather than firing up their Playstation to play hit titles, such as GTA5, FIFA, or Elden Ring.

Will this affect people living in Kenya or any other African nations?

It appears as though the lawsuit has been filed with only UK consumers in mind, which means that if people from other European, African, or North American countries have been overcharged for their games, they will not be able to claim any money back via this particular lawsuit. However, if other people around the world have been overcharged for their games, and the UK lawsuit is successful, it will set a precedent, and other people may follow suit and file additional lawsuits against Sony Playstation.

About the Sony Playstation

The Sony Playstation was first introduced to the world in 1994 in Japan, and since then, the gaming console has evolved, and there have been five different home game consoles released (Playstation, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5). Just 11 years after it hit the market, Playstation was the first console in the world to have sold over 100 million units. It has become famous for hit titles, such as the Grand Theft Auto series, the FIFA football games, Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the Uncharted Games.

How much are Playstations and their games?

When the latest PS5 console was released, it was sold for $499.99/€499.99/£449.99 (or equivalent currency value), and average game prices range from around $49.99 up to around $69.99. However, prices eventually drop, and you can often buy second-hand Playstations and games much cheaper. Some pre-used PS5 games have already been sold for as little as $25/£20. If you’re really lucky, you can find the less popular second-hand games for around $15/£10.

What mobile gaming device alternatives are there?

If you’re looking to explore mobile gaming and move away from Playstation just to see what mobile gaming has to offer, some of the best alternative devices are the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, the Xiaomi Black Shark 4 Pro, the Nubia Red Magic 7, and the Asus ROG Phone 5, which have all been specifically designed with gaming in mind. You also have the Asus ROG Phone 5, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel, the POCO F4 GT, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and the OnePlus 10 Pro, to name just some of the best handheld mobile gaming devices on the market today.

What kind of games can be played on mobile

Some of the most popular mobile games that are now available to play on one or more of these mobile devices are Throne: Kingdom at War, Soldiers Inc: Mobile Warfare, Mech Arena, Raid: Shadow Legends, and Terminator Genisys: Future War. Other top titles to keep an eye out for are Genshin Impact, Forge of Empires, Fortnite, and Call of Duty. While some of these games are free, others can be purchased from as little as $5 up to usually no more than $60.
