Mobile App Development Process Guide

Mobile App Development Process Guide

Getting into the mobile app business is something more and more companies are choosing to do every year. Given the runaway growth of mobile app usage and increasing dependence on them, few can blame businesses for seeing the industry as an ongoing gold rush. However, those interested in starting a software development firm for the purposes of designing and releasing mobile apps need to be aware of the importance of sticking to a set process for achieving success.

This process, known as the stages of software development, will serve as a guide for project managers and their staff as they push to turn an idea into reality. Here is a brief breakdown of each stage:

Research

Having a gut instinct about an idea for a mobile app is not enough. It’s a great place to start, but it needs to be supplemented with market insights, cost analysis, and other issues related to feasibility. Do your research before going forward with your genius app idea to avoid unnecessary setbacks and obstacles.

Design

This is the fun part. It’s when your team puts together a blueprint for what will eventually become the finished product. It’s also the point where misguided assumptions can get you into trouble, so make sure to do your homework before putting pen to paper.

Build

It’s time to take that blueprint and make a working app out of it. Remember this is far from the finished product; hitches and glitches come with the territory. There will be time to polish the software to achieve something closer to the ideal.

Test

Ensuring exceptional software requires subjecting it to outside testing. Outsourcing software testing is the only way to guarantee an unbiased and all-around objective analysis of the product in its beta stage. It’s important to find a firm with a reputation for providing developers with constructive criticism. This gives companies more to work with than if they’re only being told the product needs improvement.

Release

A mobile app development company has the time between testing and release to make recommended changes to their product. Doing so will remove bugs and other nagging issues. It will also give the company time to add finishing touches which may otherwise be skipped due to time constraints. Once a market-ready app has been assembled, a worthwhile marketing campaign must be activated. Similar to testing, product launch marketing is something best left to outside experts. An experienced digital marketing firm will help developers reach their target market and subsequently maximize sales.

Update

The work is not over once the mobile app is unleashed onto the marketplace. Whether it’s security issues, accounting for new smartphone OS, or one of the dozens of other reasons, expect to update the app throughout its lifetime. There should also be routine inspections and maintenance in order to try and catch problems before they develop into bigger headaches than is necessary. Doing so not only helps to squash potential customer dissatisfaction, it helps build a positive relationship with them on account of consistently providing an exceptional product.

Starting a mobile app development business is the dream of millions of digital age entrepreneurs. A lucrative industry for many, countless others struggle to churn success out from their efforts. Why is that? While providing consumers with a true quality product is the ultimate decider, much of getting to that point involves following an existing process of software development. Do that, and aspiring mobile app developers are sure to find the success they’re pursuing.
