A very helpful attribute which the Spectre has taken from HP’s Elitebook range is the HP Sure View technology which allows the users to conceal the display content from prying eyes with the push of a button. It mainly makes the display appear washed out to anyone who is not sitting right in front of the laptop. The touch screen is adequately responsive & accurate.
The superior-quality case is well-made, and it fits the Spectre’s premium classification. The hinges are reasonably firm, as well as both hands are required for opening or closing the lid due to the base’s lower weight.
This notebook’s maximum brightness of 311 nits and the average brightness of 278 nits is almost the same as to LG-equipped model (LGD054D) as well as the Spectre 13’s AU Optronics AUO422D panel.
- Memory & Processor
The machine of the notebook has been built upon operating system Windows 10. It has been configured with 8GB RAM, which makes it a very powerful system. HP has provided 360GB SSD card for good memory preposition. The processor used in the machine is the most advanced kind i.e. Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8250U with a base clock speed of 1.6 GHz. The cache memory capacity of this powerful machine is 6MB.
On the security side, HP has included one fingerprint scanner on the right side of the laptop, apart from the Windows Hello enabled camera. It is a very good feature as the Windows Hello camera is not that secure or reliable in varied lighting conditions. The fingerprint scanner on the side is a touch type, which is an added attribute.
One of the biggest updates to the Spectre x360 is the new Intel chip. Powered by the Intel Core i7 – 8550U, the Spectre is absolutely on performance benchmarks. The quad-core processor gives a substantial 30% performance boost over its predecessor and that is quite significant.
- Storage & General Attributes
The weight of the notebook is just 1.26 kg which is super light & delightful to carry anywhere. Dimensions of the machine are 305.80 x 217.40 x 13.46. It comes in an attractive silver colour. The web camera is of 2-megapixel for clear capture while you conduct a webinar. As claimed by the company this one is the thinnest & lightest convertible notebook across markets. This notebook supports HP fast charge functionality too.
During the initial days, when the Spectre was initially introduced, HP was experimenting with a glass lid cover as well as featured a physical volume knob on one side. The volume knob may have been disappeared, but the HP Spectre still appear distinguished in comparison to its new-age counterparts. Between these various homogenous looking machines, the copper and matte black-ish look of the Spectre is unique.
- Input & Connectivity
Here standard Wi-Fi support is through 802.11 ac. The notebook has been built using the latest version of Bluetooth which is 4.2. This machine has been equipped with 3 USB ports for maximum functional usage.
In this variant, HP has added a microSD card reader. The MicroSD card reader is adequately faster, as well as it offers transfer rates that were faster than the normal Core i7-8550U notebook. This means the Spectre x360 has one of the fastest card readers. One full-sized SD card reader would not have fit into the slim and compact case. One also has two USB 3.1 Type-C ports with support for Thunderbolt 3 and a single USB Type-A port. There are almost all kinds of dongles bundled with this, even a multi-port one is also provided for optimum functionality.
Every aspect related to wireless connectivity is taken care by Intel’s Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 adapter. It can use MU-MIMO for faster data transmission in case the router is connected to support it. There is no support for WWAN; hence it can’t connect to LTE networks with the Spectre x360.
HP Spectre x360 has all the essential elements to make it a power-packed machine. Overall functionality & specifications are quite contemporary & much advanced in some of the aspects. The lightweight with powerful battery backup is surely a heart winner for most of the millennial.
