How To Stay In Touch With Your Team When You’re Away From The Office
Are you always on the road? Are you seeking better ways to stay in touch with your team while you’re away from the office? Have you come to realize that this is extremely important to your success?
The way you stay in touch with your team is up to you. In the end, the only thing that matters is that you settle on a strategy that allows everyone to keep an open line of communication.
Tip: Don’t be shy about asking your team for feedback in regards to how they want to stay in touch. You may come across a few ideas that work in your favor.
Here are some of the better ways to keep in touch with your team members, even when you’re away from the office for an extended period of time:
It goes without saying that this will always be one of the better ways to communicate in the business world. Although there are other methods to consider, email is both efficient and effective.
If this is something you want to do, purchase a smartphone known for its business prowess. This makes it much easier to communicate via email while you’re on the go, as you don’t have to stop to use your computer.
2. Text Messaging
It may not make sense for every member of your team, but it’s something to consider when you need to communicate in real time (but you can’t talk on the phone).
Sending a quick text message can save you time, and when you’re traveling that’s something that you’re always looking to do.
Tip: You can also use text messaging to communicate with family and friends while traveling. For instance, this is a great way to stay in touch with a child who is planning her wedding and needs help shopping for a dress on Azazie.
3. Instant Messaging
It doesn’t matter if you’re using a smartphone, tablet, or computer, you can use instant messaging to communicate in real time.
The best instant messaging applications are full of features, such as voice and video chat. With voice chat, for example, you can see the person you are speaking with. You may not have a need for this all the time, but it’s something that will come in handy every now and again.
Tip: Make sure your entire team is using the same instant messenger, as this allows everyone to join in on the fun.
The good old phone call. With so much technology out there, many people overlook the fact that they can still communicate by making a simple phone call.
While this is a great way to communicate for business purposes, you can also make calls to stay connected with loved ones when traveling for work. An example of this would be calling a family member who’s going to prom to tell them about a gorgeous dress on LoveProm.
Even though there is a lot of advanced technology out there, don’t be afraid to make a call every now and again.
5. Meet in Person
Although you may be traveling away from your home office, that doesn’t mean that you can’t meet with some members of your team in person.
For instance, if you’re traveling to a city where you have another office, see if anyone is available to meet for lunch. There’s nothing better than meeting up in person, especially when you’re on the road.
When planning a business trip, it’s easy to get caught up in details such as which shoes to pack or how much cash you need to take along.
While every detail is important, you need to plan in advance in regards to the way you will stay in touch with your team. By doing this, you never have to worry about being out of the loop – even if you are gone for a week or longer.
What steps do you take to stay in touch with your employees when you’re out of the office? Is there anything in particular that has worked for you in the past? Is there anything you try to avoid? Share your personal experiences and approach in the comment section below.
