The Christmas period is the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be pretty dull. There’s a lot of downtime, or periods where your family are watching the TV shows you hate, or perhaps napping around the living room after a very filling Christmas dinner.

Then of course there’s the travel, all of which can leave you with pockets of free time, and not much else other than our smartphones.

So, there we sit, scrolling through social media or reading the news for the umpteenth time, during what is usually a slow news period.

Of course, the online world has plenty to offer though and there are some fantastic games you can play to pass the time over the festive period…

Geoguessr

One for the geography and travel fans is Geoguessr, a game in which you’re dumped somewhere in the world, and you have to guess exactly where in the world you are. The closer you are, the more points you win.

There are lots of different types of game available, from timed games to country specific games and even ones broken down by things like landmarks or sport.

Casino Games

Casino games are hugely popular these days and there are so many types of games you’ll find in a casino online. They’re ideal for quick gaming sessions when you have a spare five or 10 minutes, while in theory you could enjoy an all evening session playing the likes of blackjack.

Online slots are among the most popular with players, and you’ll even find tons of Christmas themed slots at this time of year.

Scrabble

You can download Scrabble to your smartphone and play against players all over the world. If you’re away from a loved one over Christmas, this is a particularly good game to play as you can connect with them and enjoy a traditional Christmas game no matter where you are in the world.

Of course, it’s a classic festive game, and what’s more, by playing online, nobody can flip the board in a temper either! It’s a win win.

Football Manager 2023

For any soccer fans, there are few games out there that can pass the time as well as Football Manager. It’s an iconic game and the new version has recently been released, with plenty of brand new and exciting features.

Be warned though, you may start playing and Christmas will be over before you know it.

Plenty of people have become obsessed over the festive period, even putting a suit on for cup finals. Just make sure you do have some family time too!

It’s available on both PC as well as a smartphone version, meaning you can play anytime, anywhere.
