Effectively Manage Your Business With Application Management
Whether you’re running a small business in your community or are an industry leader in the online world, application management can be a vital element to business success. When it comes to applications, the world is constantly changing, and key concepts are always in development. For this reason, it’s necessary to manage an app throughout its entire life. For those who are wondering if application management is worth it for their business, we’ve collected some of the best information to help you make your decision.
What is Application Management?
As we’ve mentioned, applications are in a constant state of change. What you may have deployed six months ago will always need to be studied, adjusted, and optimized to deliver the best product to your users. Application management is the act of managing these applications throughout this entire lifecycle.
In general, applications will go through about 6 cycling phases, and an application manager will be with it every step of the way:
- Gather requirements
For the most part, this state is completed in conjunction with IT and the business. The two teams will help analyze exactly what requirements must be met for the application or what will need to be changed in the redesign.
Here, the IT team works to translate the needs of the business to what is possible of the application. There may also be a Total Cost of Ownership study completed and IT infrastructure planners may also get involved.
- Build, integrate, and test
The third stage is where we see application coding and testing. This stage is intensive and requires testing of each individual part before it can actually be sent to management.
- Implement and deploy
This stage is the actual roll-out of the new or changed application. For the most part, this is a simple phase, as much of the testing beforehand should have caught any possible bugs or difficulties.
This step involves all day-to-day care of the application. This may include fixing issues encountered by the users, monitoring service levels, or even addressing changes.
In this final stage, IT teams focus on making sure your application runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
How Application Management Can Help Your Business
While we may have taken you through the six steps of application management above, it’s important to remember that this is a never-ending cycle. As long as your application is live, you’ll need to have it constantly monitored and managed in order to make sure you have a perfect end user experience. For many businesses, it makes sense to outsource your application management services to a qualified team.
Whether you’re outsourcing or keeping your application management in-house, there are plenty of reasons to add proper application management to your company. For one, application management is a fantastic way to make your IT organization a valuable member of your business.
When an application is properly managed and your IT team has deep insight into the inner workings, they’ll be able to be more service-centric. This allows your IT team to meet your business needs better. Secondly, it’s a great way to manage your IT costs. For those who are looking to keep expenses low, application management can help you predict peaks and valleys in application use. Once you’ve got this information, you’ll be able to roll out some strategic approaches to help reduce redundancies.
Whether you’re planning on rolling out a new application or are simply looking to optimize your everyday setup, proper application management is vital. Not only will this give you valuable insight into your customers’ needs, it can also be a great way to make your company stand out from the rest. To ensure your customers are having their every need met, and that your business isn’t struggling to keep on top of its applications, gather a dedication application management team to help with the day-to-day operations.
