With the Global Media Market expected to reach $2.2 trillion by the end of 2021, lots of new TV shows and mini-series are being produced and released every day, covering all genres. In this post, we will offer a look at some of the best shows we watched last year.

Altered Carbon

With its original release on Netflix this past February; this cyberpunk science fiction action thriller has captured audiences with its darker take on the future of humanity. So far, in its first season of 10 episodes and with a running time of 40 to 60 minutes, the show has already amassed a huge following leading to its first award nomination – Saturn Award for the Best New Media Television Series. Nonetheless, the critics have called this show an interesting experience that never seems to bore the audience one bit.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

Originally airing on the Fox and National Geographic media channels in 2014, the series concluded on its 13th and final episode. However, it has been revealed that the series will make a grand re-entrance into mainstream media sometime later this year. Viewers step aboard the ‘imagination ship’ and make a journey of discovery included with scientific facts and just a touch of skepticism and amazement. Back in 2014, the show won several celebrated awards along with a Peabody Award for offering educational content to its viewers.

Band of Brothers

The American drama mini-series that was originally broadcasted in 2001, won several awards and nominations including 7 Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, this 10 episode mini-series featured stories from World War II. The show will be featured again on HBO where you can watch this award-winning show once more. The plot and script do reflect the true events and overall story from author Stephen E. Ambrose after he conducted exclusive interviews with veterans from ‘East Company’ which was the Airborne’s 506th Regiment.

Planet Earth

Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, with music from Hans Zimmer, the appeal of this amazing show will surely take your breath away in the first few moments. A British documentary considered the most expensive ever made and filmed in high definition, it is regarded as the greatest nature-related TV show of all time. The attraction is limitless and the visuals are absolutely enjoyable. The third series has been announced and will broadcast this year following the phenomenal TV ratings for the 2nd season, called “Planet Earth II.” The producers of the series have even shared an interesting fact, for every 400 minutes of film they capture through the camera, they keep only a minute of it in the actual episode, which just goes to show the quality of their standards.
