The Most Well-Known Option Isn’t Always The Most Useful
Most are familiar with Microsoft Excel. It’s part of a Windows application suite called Microsoft Office. Generally, this software suite comes with any computer featuring Windows OS. As a light categorization software for the internet, it is a good solution. But when it comes to more in-depth software needs, it often falls short.
As an example, consider large datasets. If you’ve got thousands of individual bits of information spread across a spreadsheet, navigating them can be difficult. Visual settings on the program may make the headers which define a given row difficult to see—you have to keep scrolling to the top in order to find them. This is time-consuming.
It’s for this reason that certain software enhancements dealing with common grievances users have with traditional excel functions have been developed. Especially in communities which typically conduct experiments, certain operational shortcomings are obvious, and predicate upgrades like the “freeze rows” option.
According to TrumpExcel.com, in this excel program you can freeze rows when necessary; as the site points out, “You can use the Excel Freeze Panes feature to freeze rows/columns so that the headers [are] always visible no matter where you scroll in your data.” The site even has a helpful video demonstrating how easy “freezing” rows can be.
Navigating Large Datasets
Such innovations are perfect for large datasets which may come from testing large quantities of laboratory animals fitted with new ID tagging tech, or something similar. Consider the time saving such a simple innovation could bring to the table.
If you’ve got a set that’s a thousand rows long and a thousand rows wide, navigating left or right could take as long as ten seconds in either direction. If you don’t have a freeze rows option, you may have to make such a navigation twenty or thirty times in an hour, easy. That’s 200 to 300 seconds hourly, or 3.2 to 5 minutes.
If you’ve got enough data that you’re parsing it across an eight-hour day, that’s 25.6 to 40 minutes lost. Even if you stratify such duties across eight interns as a management solution, you’ll be able to cut down the time necessary for data parsing 25.6 to 40 minutes (spread across all eight interns) just through simple viewing parameters like Trump Excel’s Freeze Panes option.
Stratify that out across a whole month where such amounts of data must be processed daily. If you cut out weekends, you’re looking at twenty work days, or a total of 512 to 800 minutes lost without such an upgrade—that’s 8.53 to 13.33 hours a month. This works out to between 102.36 and 160 hours a year.
If an hour is only worth $10 at a given lab, according to the previous calculation that amounts to between $1,023.60 and $1,600.00 annually. Realistically, that would be a conservative estimate of savings for such a scenario, as it only takes into account wage, not the cost of employee hiring, benefits, or anything else of that kind.
Organizational software can fundamentally transform your operations in a variety of ways. Just consider the possibilities which online cloud-based applications bring to the table. There are a variety of tech upgrades which can save thousands for small and large businesses alike on an annual basis.
If you haven’t tried Trump Excel, it may very well be worth your while. Data categorization solutions could yield substantial savings opportunities. Whenever you can cut unnecessary time losses from your business, it’s definitely worth doing.
